My name is Daniela D’Amato.
I have been a professional Portrait Photographer since graduating from Nottingham Trent University in 2003.
My career began as a Press Photographer, specialising in music, and throughout the last two decades I have stood before some of the greatest artists of all time at some of London’s most prestigious venues. I feel lucky to have had the privilege of photographing Amy Winehouse when she released Back To Black at KOKO in Camden in 2006, Tony Bennett at The Royal Albert Hall and Blondie at Shepherds Bush Empire and Hard Rock Calling festival, Hyde Park, London.
I am passionate about photography and creating art, and I enjoy shooting every aspect and every angle of a person’s face, body and their movement, capturing their unique essence in different ways.
During my time as a Graduation Photographer in 2012, I experienced a career highlight when I photographed Stephen Hawking for Queen Mary’s University. Upon his death, I truly realised how lucky I was to have documented this.
At a personal creative peak in the lockdown of 2019/2020, I spent the time I’d normally spend shooting, alone. Despite extra freedom to create, I contended with loneliness, but went on to use my art as a platform to showcase these emotions. My piece about solitude was shortlisted for The British Photography Awards 2023, in the Self Portrait category.
People are important, and if we can escape the paranoia and fear in our own minds, even for a moment, we can create beauty, endlessly. Though the solitary journey can be fraught with pain, it is in travelling through this and reaching the other side that we grow. Nil Illegitimi Carborundum.
